The classical glass industry chooses the glass composition as a compromise between different demands: Basically the customer demand has to be fulfilled, but economic and technical demands resulting from the batch and furnace area as from the forming side have some influence towards the glass composition, too. One possibility to optimize the process is to separate the different resulting profiles and demands, because a lot of properties are defined by the glass surface. ) To gain the same properties with decreased costs, for instance using a different glass composition This approach is not new.

If too large, another correction is applied and so on until an accurate result is returned. This is in principal an iterative process and there fore it requires that several glass sheets be processed before an accurate value is returned. Within the system configuration, the operator has an opportunity to enter the expected emissivity of the target. If the value entered is close to the actual value then the correct emissivity can be reached after just one pass. If there is a significant deviance or if no value is entered, it will take several passes before the image is properly corrected.

Fig 7. Orientation of Glass in Tempering Oven THE SOLUTION A unique and novel concept has been developed which utilizes temperature measurement on both sides of the glass sheet. A single-point sensor is located underneath the process and the IR linescanner is mounted above. Both data streams are routed back to a PC via RS485 communication and processed by the application specific software. During an initial configuration process, the physical locations of both sensors are entered. The system can then identify which of the 256 data points from the linescanner is from the same coordinate as the single point sensor.
